Tillandsia butzii is a type of air plant native to Central America. A famed not-so-ordinary houseplant that your guests will surely adore, this epiphytic species produces thin, long, and soft leaves from a speckled bulbous base. The grassy leaves are deep green with patches of brown, while the flowers are long and blue, pink, or purple with small “ears.” After flowering, this low maintenance plant will die, but the “pups” or offsets produced around the base will continue the life cycle.

To water, mist you plants every 1-3 days with a spray bottle, depending on housing conditions. You can also fully submerge your air plant every 7-14 days for 5 minutes.

Tillandsia are part of a very large genus, upwards of 600 species, all native to northern Mexico and southeastern United States, Mesoamerica and the Caribbean. They can grow in diverse climates. such as tropical rain forests, swamps, and mountains.
